Animal Health Status of Regions

List of APHIS-recognized animal health statuses of regions regarding specific animal diseases or pests, or acceptable commodities.

In addition to restrictions issued through the regulatory process, APHIS imposes temporary trade restrictions administratively as outbreaks occur to:

  • To immediately establish interim restrictions on importation of some animals and animal products to the United States from regions reporting sporadic outbreaks of animal diseases while information related to the outbreaks is collected.
  • To impose restrictions based on zoning arrangements with foreign regions when control zones are established due to disease detection in these regions.

Importation of fresh (chilled or frozen) beef and ovine meat from specified regions

APHIS has not declared the following regions to be free of FMD; however, the importation of certain commodities from these regions into the United States is allowed if requirements specified in 9 CFR 94.29, in addition to other applicable requirements, are met.

Zones affected with highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in the APHIS-defined European Poultry Region

9 CFR 94.28

The importation of poultry meat and products, and live birds and poultry, from any restricted zone established because of detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza by competent animal health authorities of the APHIS-defined European Poultry Trade Region is restricted. See 9 CFR 94.28 for the specific set of restrictions.

European Poultry Trade Region, APHIS-defined. A single region consisting of Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain (England, Scotland, and Wales), Greece, Hungary, Ireland (Republic of), Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.*
