Order Authority & Regulations

The marketing order authorizes quality regulations, research and promotion programs, and volume control for almonds grown in California.  The order took effect on August 4, 1950, and was last amended under formal rulemaking on August 4, 2008.  View the full regulation.

  • Quality Regulations: The marketing order authorizes grade, size, quality, and maturity regulations on incoming and outgoing almond shipments to maintain quality shipped to consumers.
  • Research & Promotion: The marketing order authorizes production research, marketing research and development projects, and marketing promotion, including paid advertising.  Projects in these areas are currently active.  Credit for a handler’s direct advertising expenditures, is authorized and currently being used.
  • Volume Control: The marketing order authorizes volume control authority in the form of a reserve, but that program is not currently in effect.

Committee Structure

The Almond Board of California has 10 members consisting of five growers and five handlers. Each member has one alternate. The Board is divided into a cooperative marketing group and an independent group, each with two grower and two handler members. The group receiving more than 50 percent of the crop is permitted an extra grower and handler member. Members and alternates serve 3-year staggered terms beginning on March 1, except for the swing member and alternate who always serve 1-year terms. View a list of members and alternates.
