BYRON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) has selected the Byron Police Department to receive $33,713.60 through the High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) grant as part of an effort to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities across Georgia.

A release from the Byron Police Department on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 details the purpose of the grant. Money from the grant will be put towards making Byron a safe place to live and travel through, according to Chief Wesley Cannon. It also says that law enforcement in partnership with Operation Zero Tolerance DUI and Click it or Ticket seatbelt campaigns will conduct mobilizations throughout the year in high visibility patrols, and sobriety checkpoints.

Allen Poole, Director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety says, “Many of the fatal traffic crashes on our roads are preventable, and we will continue to work with our educational and enforcement partners to develop programs and initiatives that are designed to get Georgia to our goal of zero traffic deaths.”

The grant is set to continue through September of 2022.
