Multigenerational

Trying to add some educational trips into your summer family travel? If so, New York is the place for you. June to October, travelers can dive deep into our history with New York State’s Path Through History Weekends.

The events kick off June 18 and include a series of events tying in Juneteenth and Father’s Day weekend. Each event highlights stories from the past through engaging programming and exhibits. Events introduce some of New York’s most fascinating people, places and history in new ways. Many of the activities and events are free and family-friendly, offering fun ways to learn about history.

Some of the can’t-miss events from the first weekend include:

The Underground Railroad Stops in Auburn

On June 18 and 19, travelers can join Seward House Museum for a Ride Through History tour. The Seward Museum was once home to legendary politician William Seward and his wife, and the house served as a stop along the Underground Railroad. Guests can also take a historical trolley tour around the city of Auburn in celebration of Juneteenth and the 200thanniversary of Harriet Tubman’s birth.

Pathway of Resistance

Presented by the Erie Canal Museum, guests can explore The Pathway of Resistance tour, examining African American experiences on and along the Banks of the Erie Canal. The tour also explores the legacies of slavery. Travelers will have a better understanding of how slavery and systemic racism continue to impact society today.

Susan B. Anthony Marker Dedication

On June 18 at 2 p.m., travelers are invited to attend the installation of a new historical marker dedicated to the notable suffragist and abolitionist Susan B. Anthony. Anthony led a lifelong fight for women’s rights to vote, and the marker will be placed at the spot of her childhood home.
