Want to work on your roller skating skills?
Join the SKATE CREW at Mendez Recreation Center! Participants will roller skate through the park together and work on learning new skate tricks. Crew meets once a week on Tuesdays beginning Tuesday March 5, 2024. $10/month per participant. Roller skates provided or you can bring your own.

The Austin Parks and Recreation Department will begin registration for our upcoming youth summer basketball league for the following age groups: 6U (5-6 years old), 8U (7-8 years old), 10U (9-10 years old), and 12U (11-12 years old). Divisions are based off participants’ age as of January 1, 2024.

Youth Co-Ed Recreational Basketball is a great opportunity for participants to learn skills, practice teamwork and have fun while being physically active. This co-ed basketball league is structured to be a safe, recreational league aimed at beginner to intermediate players. This is a non-competitive league with volunteer coaches. Weekly practices are scheduled for eight weeks at Mendez Recreation Center. A total of six games will be played in the season at Mendez Recreation Center.

A reversible jersey and end of season award are included in the program fees.

Program Information
Ages: 5-12 years old as of January 1, 2024.
Program Time: 1 hour weekday practice with games on Saturdays. *Some age groups may play weeknights, depending upon the league.
Program Dates: Practices start the week of June 10, 2024. 6U/8U games will be played on Saturdays, beginning June 29th. 10U/12U games will be played on weeknights. (Monday through Friday)
NO GAMES WILL BE PLAYED DURING JULY 4TH WEEK.
Fees: $40 (Residents)/$70 (Non-Residents). *$10 late fee applied after May 11, 2024.


**Registration is required and will be available April 21 through May 10. Program space is limited, and registration is first come, first served. A $10 late fee will be applied for registration after May 11, 2024. There must be a minimum of 80% of the maximum participants registered in a division to conduct the league for that age group. Due to safety and fairness to the players, teams will not exceed the maximum number of participants.
**The Austin Parks and Recreation Department is looking for enthusiastic and supportive Volunteer Coaches to make a positive impact on the youth and teens in our community. In order for a team to form, a volunteer coach is needed for the league. If an age group does not have a coach, participants in that age group will be refunded in full. Please contact us if you’re interested in becoming a Volunteer Coach.

Teams will play with other Central Area Recreation Center soccer teams. Practices will be held at Metz or Martin Park and games will be held at Martin Middle School Field. For the 2024-2025 After School Program, we are heading on a road trip across the United States. Every month, we are stopping at a different state where we’ll be playing games, creating food, and doing activities based on facts, sports, entertainment, and culture of that state. Get ready to travel!

No school today? Don't sit at home all by yourself... Join us for a fun-filled kids day off. This program is offered on non-city holidays that are teachers' workdays. Camp days follow AISD school schedule. Each child is required to bring a non-refrigerated/non-microwaveable lunch and two snacks daily.

Anything But Your Average Summer Camp!
Join us this summer for weekly camp sessions that are... ANYTHING BUT AVERAGE! We'll play extreme sports, discover unusual art projects, and even try unique foods. Every week we'll leave the center to swim at local City of Austin pools and attend field trips too!

Teen Summer Camp at Mendez Recreation Center is back!
This program is designed for youth participants 11-14 years old. This summer we’ll have 10 weeks of scheduled activities for our teen campers. Each weekly session will be filled with games and activities at our recreation center as well as fun field trips and teambuilding challenges. Our campers will have the opportunity to learn about themselves, make new friends, and build skills. Teen campers will participate in and lead a wide range of activities that include… arts and crafts, games, outdoor adventures, fun field trips, and swimming at our PARD aquatics facilities. We’ll also be visiting local museums and universities to support development and growth. Teens must follow rules and directions in order for us to provide a safe environment when in public settings. We hope that you’ll join us for a summer filled with adventure and creating great memories!
