Overview

The U.S. visa application process is the same whether you are applying for the first time or renewing your visa. However, if you have previously been issued a U.S. visa, you may not be required to personally appear for an interview.

It is important to know that your visa may still be valid if the passport it is in expires. You can travel to the United States with your old passport containing a valid visa and your new, valid passport.

Qualifications

Currently, only B1/B2, C1/D, J, M, H1, H3, H4, non-blanket L, O, P, and Q visa holders may participate in the Interview Waiver. Please see the links below for the requirements:

• Interview Waiver for Exchange Programs (J)
• Interview Waiver for Crew (C1/D)
• Interview Waiver for Student Visa (M)
• Interview Waiver for Certain Petition-based Visas (H1, H3, H4, non-blanket L, O, P, and Q)
