Allegheny County reports 31 new covid-19 cases, no new deaths for 2nd day in a row

Allegheny County officials reported 31 additional covid-19 cases and no new deaths Thursday, the second day in a row that no deaths have been reported.

That leaves the total number of deaths countywide at 144, while the total number of confirmed and probable cases rose to 1,718.

The county on Wednesday reported no new deaths and 29 additional covid-19 cases.

Hospitalizations in recent weeks rose to 313.

The first case was reported in Allegheny County on March 14. Since then, more than 25,000 tests have been administered in Allegheny County, which moved to the yellow phase of Gov. Tom Wolf’s reopening plan last week.

It is “too soon to tell” whether there has been a spike in new cases since businesses throughout the region started reopening, county officials said during a press briefing Wednesday.

Those test results will likely take about two weeks to show up in county-level data.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health on Wednesday reported 143 more covid-19 deaths and 746 additional cases, bringing the state’s total number of cases to 64,412 and deaths to 4,767.
