Ángeles Daurat Mackenzie was born in Punta del Este, Uruguay but lived and did most of her schooling in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She graduated from high school as “Bachiller Nacional”. She earned her degree in Social Communication in 1987 and had always planned to be a journalist. Her career in education was launched when she enrolled in 1985 in the Argentine government program to teach illiterates how to write and read. Ángeles taught for the “Ministerio Nacional de Educación” for four years until she moved to the U.S. in May of 1989. She started teaching at the College of Charleston as a Spanish Adjunct professor in 1990. She was part of the Hispanics Department until 2005.
In October of 2005, Angeles created Spanish Your Way. She tailors and customizes Spanish courses. There was a need of these type of classes in the rapidly growing Charleston community. Most of her students need to speak Spanish at work, at home, at school, hospitals, in the Hospitality industry or even for traveling. She has taught Middle school Spanish at the University School of the Lowcountry in Mt. Pleasant and also was Spanish instructor for the Veterans Upward Bound Program.

Caroline Smith is the Inclusive Services Consultant at the South Carolina State Library and a native speaker of English. She began learning Spanish on-the-job at the public library where she worked in 2014. Since then, she has gone on to use conversational Spanish skills to host bilingual and Spanish-language programming, strengthen relationships with Spanish-speaking communities, and assist Spanish-speaking customers in the library. During this series, she will share tips for learners and useful phrases for library interactions.
