Little Hands Signing Professional Development Storytime Series

  • Tuesday, April 13, 2021, 12-1 PM Eastern: Summer Signs
  • Tuesday, April 20, 2021, 12-1 PM Eastern: Autumn Signs
  • Tuesday, April 27, 2021, 12-1 PM Eastern: Winter Signs
  • Tuesday, May 4, 2021, 12-1 PM Eastern: Celebration Signs

Learn how to use American Sign Language in storytimes to broaden their appeal and make them more participative! Each session will focus on vocabulary on a specific theme and will demonstrate stories, songs, rhymes, and techniques you can use in programs for all ages.

At the end of each session, participants will be able to:

  • List 3 benefits of signing with children
  • Demonstrate at least 6 American Sign Language signs relating to the theme
  • Identify at least 1 storytime song, story, or rhyme to use with signs on this theme

Sessions will be recorded and archived for those unavailable to attend live. 

Presenter:

Kathy MacMillan is a nationally certified American Sign Language interpreter, librarian, author, and storyteller. She is the author of many books for children, teens, and adults, including Nita's First Signs, Nita's Day, Little Hands and Big Hands, and co-author of the bestselling Storytime Magic resource book series from ALA Editions.
