CalVTP in Practice: Sequoia Lake Case Study

Forester Jerrold Sharp and environmental scientist Nicolas Meyer discussed the preparation of one of the early Project Specific Analyses approved under the California Vegetation Treatment Program EIR. Topics of interest included a discussion of the finer details of preparing the PSA, initial feedback from the lead agency, and a compare and contrast discussion between the CalVTP process and other mechanisms for satisfying CEQA requirements for fuels reduction projects. The presentation highlighted the challenges and “rough spots” of completing a PSA, and how the authors got around them.

Trainers:

Jerrold Sharp, Forester, CAL FIRE Fresno-Kings Unit

Jerrold has been working in the field of forestry for ten years and holds a Bachelor of Sciences in Forestry from Humboldt State University. He has worked in private industry, consulting, and the public sector. Jerrold has been a Registered Professional Forester since 2019. 

Nicolas Meyer, Environmental Scientist, CAL FIRE Fresno-Kings Unit

Nick Meyer is an Environmental Scientist with eight years of experience working as a biologist for the state of California. Nick has worked for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the California Department of Transportation, and is now settling into a promising career with the California Department of Forestry and Fire (CAL FIRE). Nick specializes in rare plant and animal species, is a GIS Specialist, as well as the CAL FIRE Fresno-Kings Unit CEQA Specialist. Nick is inspired daily by his wife and their daughter. In his free time, Nick likes to play guitar, camp, and fish with his family.
