Police Arrest Man for Saturday Shooting in Central District

Police arrested a 34-year-old man after he shot another man at a Central District bus stop Saturday evening.

Witnesses called 911 around 6 p.m. Saturday to report shots fired at the intersection of 23rd Avenue South and South Jackson Street. When police arrived they found a 59-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the thigh, along with the suspect, who was crying and holding onto the victim.

Officers immediately began providing first aid to the victim, who told police the suspect and an unknown woman came up behind him and began assaulting him. He said the suspect then pulled out a hand gun and the two began to struggle over the weapon when it went off, striking the victim. The victim said the unknown woman picked up the gun and fled the area.

Officers arrested the suspect and booked him into King County jail for investigation of assault and robbery. Police continue to search for the unidentified woman.
