Muriel Louveau, born in Brittany, is an eclectic French composer, performance-maker, and singer. She began performing at age five and went on to study the history of art and to follow the vocal training program of Roy Hart.

She refers to her compositions as contemporary medieval music -inspired by ancient music and foreign sources; she creates her own imaginary language “spanning centuries, ethnic and spiritual divides.” explains Louveau.

Louveau has also been commissioned to produce four educational albums for French-speaking children which earned a Teachers Choice Award and Academy Charles Cros Awards.

“M. Louveau, a singer whose voice has been described as haunting and highly individualistic.”

Time Out, New York

“It is a most intriguing mixture of old chants, flamenco, middle eastern, primeval paganism and aggressive New Age. There are even hints of Yma Sumac.. Fascinating.. with a sense of mysterious drama.”

Norma Lynn, Arts alive and Well, New Mexico

“Never Adhering or locked to traditional forms, Louveau’s compositional strength in achieving clear shapes leades us into a realm of foreign landscapes .Furthermore, we cannot generalize Louveau’s works into any sect, but instead we are encouraged to accept her as a new explorer.”

Not The Not yet

In 2020, Louveau completed and released a new album called The Waking Dream inspired by the writings—poetic and otherwise—of Mary Shelley whose Frankenstein was penned in 1816, a “year without summer” beset by famine, global pandemic, and the eruption of Mount Tambora in Indonesia.

In addition to quoting Shelley, Louveau weaves extra-linguistic impulses, drawing breath through the throat like a thread through a needle in ambient environments.

Currently, she is co-creating dance videos based on pieces from this musical project with dancers across the globe.
