we talk about the bermuda triangle. i tell her about the Zona Del Silencio over the desert. in the desert the night comes quick. the dark is dark dark. one minute the sunset is burning my face in the mirror the next we are in the wine-dark. i always want to sing that favorite song of my dads about following the sun when the afternoon dies. the dusk is purple. desert swallows flail under bridges. the dunes. when i was a younger woman and young women we are in the desert. were turning up dismembered in the dunes i painted the desert. a shoulder. a hip. my uncle who saw the painting said i was dirty. the dunes become the dark. more bridges. we move from state to state and country to country and again state to state Hello Nothing! i say in a jaunty voice as we sail over the waterless bridge in the dark. How Sad! exclaims my sister. and then somehow we laugh about something else that i forget.

Me and Rocío are writing a book called Attendance. Now there are excerpts!

It’s documentary poetry going month by month but the weird thing is the recirculation/time travel/non-linearity of calendar/rip tide it brings. We make notes, like a captain’s log, read it to one another, then make poems from/for the month, read those to one another—all the while keeping the next notes and working on the next poems. And now two other layers—excerpt, publish. It’s strange [what did we think was going to happen?] living three months at once, or four, as the writing and the timing loop de loop. This is our description right now:

As we stand in relation to plants and animals—and one another—we are not exempt, but alive as creatures in and of the world. Taking attendance, and attending, alters* our writing, bodies; places—city, land, wilderness; times—past, present, future…

*fucks up / fucks with / plant sex

There is a jellyfish in our picture at the Colorado Lagoon. Plus clouds plus algae plus minnows. Did I mention we are publishing a thing!!!!! And it might fuck us up / fuck with us / plant sex us????
