About this event

988 and Crisis Now:

In 2020, Congress passed a new law to make "988" the nationwide three-digit number for mental health crisis and suicide prevention, which will go live in every community by July 2022.

But what services and help will be available to anyone who calls for help?

Under the leadership of the New Mexico Behavioral Health Services Division (BHSD) the 988 Implementation Team was created to develop a crisis response services implementation plan. Community input is needed to help answer the question about what services and help are needed.

The 988 Implementation Team seeks the input of community members who have experienced a mental health crisis, suicide attempt, or who have accessed crisis response services to talk about their experiences. Hearing about peoples experiences with crisis response is critical to making New Mexico’s crisis response system safe, accessible, culturally appropriate, and trauma-informed.

LISTENING SESSIONS:

Listening Sessions are one way to make your voice heard and raise awareness about the needs of the community when it comes to a crisis response system. Participants in Listening Sessions are asked to talk about their experiences and sometimes answer specific questions. Listening Sessions are a tool to collect valuable information on a person's experience! The goal of a Listening Session is to understand the opportunities and challenges surrounding mental health crisis response in New Mexico.
