988 and Crisis Now:
In 2020, Congress passed a new law to make "988" the nationwide three-digit number for mental health crisis and suicide prevention, which will go live in every community by July 2022.
But what services and help will be available to anyone who calls for help?
Under the leadership of the New Mexico Behavioral Health Services Division (BHSD) the 988 Implementation Team was created to develop a crisis response services implementation plan. Community input is needed to help answer the question about what services and help are needed.
The 988 Implementation Team seeks the input of community members who have experienced a mental health crisis, suicide attempt, or who have accessed crisis response services to talk about their experiences. Hearing about peoples experiences with crisis response is critical to making New Mexico’s crisis response system safe, accessible, culturally appropriate, and trauma-informed.
