Advancing family caregiving through research, advocacy, and innovation
About us
Established in 1996, The National Alliance for Caregiving is a non-profit coalition of national organizations focusing on issues of family caregiving. The Alliance was created to conduct research, do policy analysis, develop national programs, increase public awareness of family caregiving issues, work to strengthen state and local caregiving coalitions, and represent the US caregiving community internationally. Recognizing that family caregivers provide important societal and financial contributions toward maintaining the well-being of those they care for, the Alliance’s mission is to be the objective national resource on family caregiving with the goal of improving the quality of life for families and care recipients.

Melinda French Gates just announced a $1 BILLION investment in women and families 🙌 Why does this matter for caregivers? Because when we invest in women, we invest in family caregivers. 💪 According to research from the National Alliance for Caregiving and AARP, women disproportionately shoulder the responsibilities of care, with women of color facing the harshest realities of our broken care systems. French Gates' investment is a step towards change. It's a recognition that supporting women and families IS supporting caregivers. It's about empowering us all to thrive. ❤️ Read more about the announcement in the The New York Times: https://lnkd.in/egEJy2Ye And here from our friends at Pivotal Ventures: https://lnkd.in/eyqYRFju #CaregiversCount #InvestInFamilies #MelindaFrenchGates #CaregiverNation #Caregiving #GenderEquity

We didn’t want this month to go by without acknowledging #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth. For caregivers, positive emotions often co-exist with feelings of isolation and stress. According to our Caregiving in the U.S 2020 Report, nearly one in four caregivers consider their caregiving situation to be highly stressful -- juggling their care recipients' care, personal needs, work, and family. At the same time, half of caregivers feel their role as a caregiver gives them a sense of purpose or meaning in life. Our Caring for the Carers brief focuses on improved policies to better support and assist caregivers' mental health, including improving behavior health equity, increasing the mental health workforce shortage and educating mental health providers on caregiver challenges and needs. We encourage you to download and review this resource to learn more strategies on how to support the caregivers in your life: https://lnkd.in/e-ZVe2QR

Liz Mahar, Director of Advocacy and Strategic Alliances at our member organization PhRMA, explores the impact of access to innovative medicines on family caregivers. According to Liz, “The more we can do to develop new medical innovations — and crucially, expand access to them — the better we can improve the quality of life for patients and their caregivers in ways that aren’t always apparent.” We’re grateful to Liz for sharing her caregiving experience and for bringing to light the important connection between caregiving, access to treatment, and medical innovation. Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing moms out there who provide care to their families, friends, and loved ones! Check out this special message from our President & CEO Jason Resendez about the incredible impact his mom has had on his journey as a care advocate. #MothersDay #caregiving
Like many, my journey into caregiving began with my mom. She raised three kids, worked full-time, and cared for my grandmother, who faced multiple chronic conditions - a common scenario in Latino households across the US. We didn’t know it then, but she was one of America’s 11 million sandwich caregivers, navigating broken care systems at every turn. She battled Meciaid eligibility requirements, insurance denials, hospital billing practices, drug accessibility, and more. In the face of it all, she was resilient, determined, and fully loving. I’m immensely grateful for her example and for the strength she passed on to me. I carry it with me every day as I raise my son and in the movement to build a more caring future for moms and family caregivers like her. Happy Mother’s Day, mom! #mothersday #caregiving #medicaid #healthcare #moms
