Tweens are getting their first phones, first social media accounts—and first experiences in cyberbullying. What, when and why does this occur? In this recorded edWebinar, watch Dr. Justin Patchin, the co-director of the Cyberbullying Research Center, and Carrie Rogers-Whitehead, the founder of Digital Respons-Ability to learn about insights, research and strategies on how to handle cyberbullying with tweens.

Dr. Patchin shares his findings from a 2020 study around tweens and cyberbullying, and more of his extensive research into this topic. Both he and Carrie provide advice for educators on managing cyberbullying with tweens based on research and experience.

About the Presenters

Carrie Rogers-Whitehead is the founder of Digital Respons-Ability, a mission-based company that has educated tens of thousands of students, parents and educators on digital citizenship. She regularly writes and researches on technology and is the author of Digital Citizenship: Teaching Strategies and Practice from the Field, and the recently released Becoming a Digital Parent: A Practical Guide to Help Families Navigate Technology.

Dr. Justin Patchin is a professor of criminal justice in the Department of Political Science at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Dr. Patchin is a former Futurist in Residence at the FBI and received his Ph.D. and M.S. in criminal justice from Michigan State University. He has worked as a youth treatment specialist, working with at-risk youth in Minnesota. With Dr. Sameer Hinduja, he co-founded the Cyberbullying Research Center and has written seven books and numerous articles in professional and academic publications on cyberbullying, sexting, and other forms of teen technology use. About the Moderator

Joyce Whitby is the president of Innovations4Education. She is a lifelong educator who spent over ten years teaching graduate-level courses in educational technology at Long Island University, where, in 1984, she developed the T.E.A.M. program (Telecommunications, Education, and Multimedia). Since then, Joyce has been in the business of educational technology with key roles in professional development, marketing, and sales leadership. Most notably she has developed strategic sales initiatives targeting complex and urban environments for several organizations including WICAT Systems, Jostens Learning, Scientific Learning, Apple Computer, Monarch Teaching Technologies (makers of VizZle, an app for students with autism), and the education group of West Corporation (SchoolMessenger solutions). She has been an active member of SIIA for over 15 years.
