PRINCE GEORGE - Starting from scratch, a new American Legion Post has been established. It took time and a lot of checking the blocks to ensure everything was in order but members of Prince George Post 1703 made it happen.

The newly established Post first received a temporary charter for three months. Then, it was presented with its permanent charter by former Department Commander Bill Feasenmyer at the Department Headquarters on June 9, 2020.

"By starting from the beginning and building up the members could best model the Post to fit the intentions of what the American Legion is in regard to the Four Pillars it represents," said Commander Mable Combo-Farris. "The Four Pillars are Americanism, Children and Youth, National Security, and Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation."

"We are a family-oriented post and would like children to be involved,” said Combo-Farris. “People tend to participate more when the entire family gets involved.”The new

Post is seeking honorably discharged veterans who would like to join to lend a hand in doing great things for veterans and the community.

Recently, Post 1703 assisted with Fort Lee Federal Credit Union's shred event and food drive to benefit local food pantries such as the Prince George Food Bank and The Hope Center food pantry in Petersburg.

If you are a veteran or know a veteran who may be interested in joining, send an email to amlegionpost1703@gmail.com or call 804-668-5695.
