NPC24 Call for Proposals
The call for proposals has officially concluded, and we are excited to announce that the peer review process is now in full swing. We are delighted to share that we received an overwhelming response, with over 600 submissions received. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this impressive turnout!

Submission Guidelines
Proposals are welcomed for a variety of formats, including presentations, panel discussions, workshops, and interactive sessions.
NPC24 Session Types
Speed Share (5-minutes)
Inspire attendees with success snapshot that illustrates practical tips, innovative work or insights, and lessons learned.
Delivery options: In-person only
Presenter Maximum: 1
Innovation Talk (20-minutes)
Help planners thrive by sharing an example of an innovative strategy or agile approach used to tackle the changing environment. Demonstrate a novel method, tool, or lesson learned with practical application tips for planners to overcome challenges today, tomorrow and the future. Key topics we are looking for in this session type:
- Applications of AI-based planning tools (and what to do about algorithmic bias or incomplete datasets)
- Engagement of younger generations in planning
- Innovative solutions to tackle housing issues
- Successful applications of digital twins (or even the metaverse!)
- Adjusting to realities of a new work culture
- Game-changing approaches to equity, diversity, and inclusion

Presenter Maximum: 1
Case Study (45-minutes)
A Case Study will illustrate, explore, report, analyze, summarize, challenge, or simply describe practical planning projects carried out to address a problem or take advantage of an opportunity. This is an opportunity to reflect on the experience, what could have been improved, and describe the impacts of doing nothing. Practical application methods, tools, and novel approaches must be included for the audience to learn how these solutions can be applied in their work.

Panel Maximum: 3
Panel Discussion (45-minutes)
A spirited discussion amongst panelists or with the audience about a central topic. To enhance the richness of discussion, selection criteria include the diversity of presenters, organizations and viewpoints. The moderator will engage the audience and guide the discussion through curated questions, leaving time for Q&A.

Panel Maximum: 4
AICP Mandatory Credit Sessions (60-minutes)
AICP has designated four mandatory topics as a requirement of AICP-certified planners. These credits are fundamental to how planning is practiced today. Choose from the Law, Ethics, Equity, and Sustainability and Resilience. To be considered for NPC, proposals must effectively detail how the presentation will meet the CM criteria established for that topic.

Learning Lab (90-minutes)
Learning labs are designed to spark creative thinking in collaborative group sessions by harnessing the power of diverse planner experiences. Through a mix of a brief presentation, facilitation, and problem-solving group exercises, presenters will equip planners with the tools and knowledge to identify potential outcomes and solutions to prevalent challenges.

Using our identified list of the biggest drivers of change and disruptors facing the planning profession and the communities we serve, pitch a session and respond to planner needs.
We need you to help us build an outstanding NPC program! Unique perspectives and diverse, new voices are key to building a representative program. Become a proposal reviewer to evaluate and select the sessions for NPC24. Session reviewers must be APA members.
Mobile workshops provide a unique opportunity for attendees to view complete and/or in-progress planning projects by visiting locations throughout the host city and neighboring region. Members and non-members are encouraged to submit Mobile Workshop proposals. Non-member will need to create an APA account.
Tips and Tricks
- Start early. Don't miss the deadline.
- Don't repeat the same session as NPC23.
- Choose the right program area.
- Choose the right session type.
- Focus the content/topics in your proposal to be relevant and emerging to the field of planning.
- Tie the proposal descriptions to the learning outcomes.
- Be clear and concise in describing your session.
- Receive firm speaker commitments before entering them in your proposal.
- Include diverse experts as part of your panel.
- Be creative — think of how to engage the audience while presenting your content.
