41 Arrests In Essex County Include Homicide, Assault Suspects: ECPO

A massive warrant sweep in Essex County ended with dozens of arrests. Charges ranged in severity from homicide to shoplifting.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Police recently arrested more than three dozen people in Essex County during a massive warrant sweep, including several fugitives accused of homicides and 12 alleged gang members, authorities announced Monday.

“Operation Essex” was conducted by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office in partnership with the Essex County Sheriff’s Department and the Newark Police Department. The arrests took place throughout the month of October.

In total, 41 people were arrested, charged and taken into custody, authorities said. The charges included homicide, aggravated assault and sexual assault, as well as less severe offenses such as shoplifting, drug possession and parole violations.

“I’m proud our detectives and prosecutors, whose investigation skills are second to none,” Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens II said. “Anyone who tries to ignore a warrant for arrest in Essex County should know that we will prosecute to the full extent of the law.”

  • William Johnson, 46, of Newark - Aggravated Assault
  • Fernando Pellot, 35, of Orange - Aggravated Assault
