Description

The U.S. Air Force David Grant Medical Center - Clinical Investigation Facility is offering a post-bachelor's internship at Travis Air Force Base.

What will I be doing?

As an ORISE participant, you will join a community of scientists and researchers in an effort to support all 60th clinical investigation and research, to include human subjects, animal, and non-human/non-research protocols. Activities will focus on coordinating administrative/logistic programs for animal users and IACUC (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee) members.

Under the guidance of a mentor, you will engage in a variety of research activities, including:

  • Preparing IACUC-related mandatory reports
  • Communicating directly with AAALAC International, USDA, and the applicable oversight offices as required for all matters pertaining to animal care and use program(s).
  • Maintaining database of all animal use protocols and animal use for applicable reports
  • Documenting and collecting protocol change requests by IACUC
  • Submitting documents to Institutional Official (IO) in accordance with Animal Welfare Act Regulations (AWAR) and accreditation standards
  • Maintaining record of reviews for IACUC reference, verification, and compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Coordinating periodic review of all animal use protocols approved by IACUC in accordance with federal law and DoD regulations.

Where will I be located? Travis Air Force Base, California

What is the anticipated start date?

Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and internships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.

What is the appointment length? 

Appointments are initially for one year with the option to extend the appointment for up to four additional years, contingent upon project needs and funding availability.

You will receive an annual stipend of roughly $85,000. Other benefits may include the following:

About USAF-DGMC-CIF

The 60th Medical Group, David Grant USAF Medical Center (DGMC) Clinical Investigation Facility (CIF), is one of 17 DHA Clinical Investigation Programs with formal clinical research programs and resources specifically designated to support such operations. The primary mission is to support DGMC personnel in the implementation of approved clinical investigation and training projects. The CIF provides oversight for and conducts cutting-edge research to meet the future needs of DoD (Department of Defense) medical readiness, en-route care, force protection, clinical medicine, and homeland defense initiatives. DGMC's primary mission is to provide Expert Research and Training to Support Graduate Medical Health Science Education, Clinical Capabilities, and DHA/AFMS-Relevant Clinical Investigations.  The CIF supports 16 Graduate Medical Education Residency Programs and Line/DHP Readiness mission research requirements by addressing medical capability gaps to improve health outcomes. CIF engages in over 50 human/animal research protocols annually, a $2.0M O&M budget, $6M R&D budget and $4M gifts/grants research endowments. About ORISE

This program, administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and DoD. Participants do not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DoD or any other office or agency. Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.  Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. Qualifications

The qualified candidate will have an associate's or bachelor's degree received within five years of the appointment start date.

Highly competitive applicants will have education and/or experience in one or more of the following:

  • Research protocol support experience that includes Animal Care/Research
  • Certified Professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA)
