The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is the new, three-digit number that has replaced the ten-digit National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (NSPL). It is now available nation-wide in English and Spanish.

988 is more than just an easy-to-remember number. It is a direct connection to confidential caring support for anyone in mental health distress. This may include:

  • thoughts of suicide

  • emotional distress

988 is a free service available to everyone.

Between July 2022 and December 2023, New Yorkers have reached out to 988 more than 330,000 times for mental health support.
