In 2020, we suspended our Development and STEM grant cycles.  In lieu of our traditional grant cycles, we provided $500 micro-grants to 10 New Mexico Libraries, to provide relief funding to address racial justice and COVID-19 needs in their communities.  

We also partnered with the NM State Library, Explora Science Center, and the NM Department of Cultural Affairs to roll out a statewide virtual Summer Reading Program for 2020.

$500 to buy high interest ebooks to the collection so that students will have equitable and immediate access to library materials during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Alamogordo Public Library, Alamogordo, NM ($4018.90 to provide traveling librarian STEM lessons and take home kits to participating students, and a collection of circulating STEM exploration kits.)

Dixon Elementary School Library – Dixon, NM ($996 to update a largely donation-based collection with the purchase of new titles for students.)

Truman Middle School – Albuquerque, NM ($1,325 to introduce a collection of 10 circulating STEM-based maker kits. Packed in back packs, these kits include instructional texts as well as necessary materials for coding, robotics, knitting, and other STEM-related hobbies that students could explore at home.)

The New Mexico Library Foundation was founded in 1992 to assist the NM Library Association with fundraising and distribution of resources to support library initiatives around the state.  The initial years were dedicated to organizational development and to raising awareness and resources. NLMF awarded the inaugural grant to David Cargo Public Library, Mora NM in 1997.
