City of Austin Mayor's Office Early Childhood VISTA
 
 
 
The City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA program works with City departments and local nonprofits to build capacity, in order to provide resources and services the Austin neighborhoods and communities that may otherwise be left behind by Austin's historic disparities and future growth. The AmeriCorps Members serving with the City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA Program work in such diverse fields as education, health, waste reduction, and housing to cover the myriad ways poverty affects these neighborhoods and communities.

Member Duties : Research and conduct data analysis on increasing childcare capacity in Austin/Travis County. Create a system to gather existing data from other agencies and create new data to fill knowledge gaps. Create a resource list of childcare providers, educators, and other experts who would be interested in providing information and feedback to help define the strategies and goals of this project. Create a survey/needs assessment to be distributed to Austin and Travis County families, especially low-income families in target communities, to gather information regarding childcare, economic impact of access to quality early learning, and potential initiatives that would be popular with target populations. Develop a strategic plan and framework to expand early childcare programs in Austin/ Travis County.
