Austin Asian-American Resource Center Teen Mentorship VISTA
 
 
 
The City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA program works with City departments and local nonprofits to build capacity, in order to provide resources and services the Austin neighborhoods and communities that may otherwise be left behind by Austin's historic disparities and future growth. The AmeriCorps Members serving with the City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA Program work in such diverse fields as education, health, waste reduction, and housing to cover the myriad ways poverty affects these neighborhoods and communities.

Member Duties : Analyze the Asian-American Resource Center’s (AARC) existing and previous programs to determine effectiveness and reach regarding community youth. Create a system for identifying and working with community members as mentors. Research existing teen mentorship programs to help determine mentor requirements, standard operating procedures, and training needs. Develop protocols and processes for working with volunteer mentors, including topics like safety and what the mentorship should accomplish. Create an outreach plan to market the Teen Mentorship Program to Asian-American and Pacific Islander youth in the Austin area, especially in communities who have been unserved or underserved by AARC in the past.
