FDA lead­ers in JA­MA: This fall will kick off the 'new nor­mal' of an­nu­al Covid-19 boost­ers

Covid-19 vac­cine man­u­fac­tur­ers, the FDA, CDC, and vac­cine ex­perts will need to come to­geth­er and make a de­ci­sion with­in the next month on who should be el­i­gi­ble for Covid boost­ers next fall and what those boost­ers should look like, FDA com­mis­sion­er Rob Califf, prin­ci­pal deputy com­mis­sion­er Janet Wood­cock, and CBER di­rec­tor Pe­ter Marks wrote in a JA­MA view­point pub­lished yes­ter­day.

But the FDA lead­ers stressed that “so­ci­ety is mov­ing to­ward a new nor­mal” where Covid boost­ers are ad­min­is­tered along­side flu boost­ers an­nu­al­ly.
