We are pleased to share several current and upcoming opportunities for U.S.-based institutions and American TESOL experts to partner with the U.S. Department of State’s Office of English Language Programs (OELP). From hosting an in-person exchange for international participants, presenting a webinar for EFL educators around the world, creating an online course to address crisis-affected classrooms, or sharing your TESOL expertise with a large social media audience, we hope you will find something that interests you! 
 
All programs and opportunities listed below are provided by the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and administered by FHI 360.

Host an In-Person Exchange

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Office of English Language Programs (OELP) invites applications from U.S. universities and colleges to host two-week in-person academic exchanges on various themes related to English language teaching and learning. Each exchange will host 25 international, non-native English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers at an academic institution in the United States for two weeks before participants travel to Portland, Oregon to attend TESOL 2023. A brief description of the three available exchanges is listed below. Further information about the application process can be found at https://solicitations.fhi360.org/Solicitation.aspx.   
  1. The Using Service Learning to Teach 21st Century Skills to English Language Learners in-person academic exchange will provide international middle and high school English Language teachers who are alumni of the  OELP Virtual Exchanges Program with practical guidance for building 21st century skills through service-learning projects.  

    Application Available: August 1 - September 16, 2022.   
     
  2. The Navigating Intercultural Communication for Online English Language Teaching and Hosting Virtual English Language Fellow Exchanges in-person academic exchange will focus on giving international administrators and faculty of host institutions for the Virtual English Language Fellows program tools to build community and navigate intercultural communication in online environments for online English language teaching, teacher training, and cross-cultural exchanges.

    Application Available: August 8 - September 23, 2022.  
     
  3. The Exploring American Perspectives through Popular Culture in-person exchange program will provide international, non-native English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers from the English Access Microscholarship Program  with an opportunity to explore diverse perspectives in American popular culture so that they can select and adapt American cultural materials for teaching critical thinking about social issues in their communities.

Develop a Course on Teaching English in Emergencies: Supporting Students Affected by Crisis

The U.S. Department of State’s  Online Professional English Network (OPEN) Program is pleased to announce a Request for Assistance to develop an online course on Teaching English in Emergencies: Supporting Students Affected by Crisis. 
 
We are soliciting applications for an accredited, U.S.-based university or accredited academic institution with expertise and demonstrated proficiency in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) to develop an eight-module asynchronous online course on the topic of Teaching English in Emergencies.  Through this asynchronous online course on Teaching English in Emergencies, EFL educators will gain understanding and skills to better work with English language learners affected by conflict, disasters, or displacement.

Present a Webinar to a Global Audience of English Language Educators

The American English Live Webinar Series (AE Live) is now accepting presentation proposals from experienced TESOL professionals on practice-oriented topics that will appeal to a global audience. AE Live Series 16 will take place every other Wednesday from January 18 - March 29, 2023. Series 17 will take place from May 17 - July 26, 2023. Proposals for AE Live Series 16 and 17 are due by September 30, 2022. Proposals will be accepted after this deadline but will only be considered for available Series 17 events. All events are broadcast via Zoom and streamed live to the American English for Educators Facebook page. Webinars often have a daily reach of over 100,000 participant viewers. Share Your Expertise as a Teacher's Corner Guest Expert

The American English for Educators Facebook page Teachers’ Corner Guest Expert series is an exciting way for American TESOL professionals to share their expertise asynchronously with a broad audience. 
 
The Teachers’ Corner Guest Expert series is now accepting content proposals from experienced TESOL professionals on current TESOL topics that will appeal to an audience of EFL educators around the world. Proposals for our 2023 series are due by August 29th, 2022. You can see current Teachers’ Corner Guest Expert content on the  American English for Educators Facebook page.
