Overview
Myla+ reduces the impact of domestic violence. Domestic violence is a massive issue in the United States as “1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner physical violence…” according to NCADV.org. This alarming statistic shows how prevalent domestic violence is in society. However, what truly inspired me to address this problem was when a domestic violence incident occurred in my town three years ago. I was shocked to learn that a classmate witnessed a domestic violence incident, and sadly his mom, the victim, passed away. To ensure such an incident doesn’t happen in the future, I decided to create and improve Myla+, a domestic violence device.
Myla+ consists of both a software and hardware side. On the software side, the iOS and Android apps is where the user can configure the user and contact information. On the hardware side, the sound sensor constantly listens to the environment's sound level, and if it exceeds a sound threshold set by the user, the alarm is triggered. If the track location feature is on, the GPS sensor will find the user’s location and send it to the contact list or the police. The user can also disarm the alarm on the app in the configurable time frame. Myla+ solves the critical issue of domestic violence by providing help and support to victims and informing the authorities when an incident occurs.
