EM values the commitment and service of military veterans and their families. The greater DOE has a long history of engaging veterans and hiring service members into compelling energy jobs in environmental cleanup, engineering, sciences, communications, cybersecurity and protective force. There are a variety of veterans programs here that DOE participates in to assist transitioning service members, veterans, disabled veterans, and military spouses.

EM continues to make strides in the area of hiring veterans. Veterans make up 28 percent of the federal EM workforce, which is a 3 percent increase from FY22. This is a direct result of EM’s implementation and utilization of the Department of Energy’s Disabled Veterans Affirmative Action Plan in its approach to attract, recruit, hire and retain our veteran workforce.

In FY24, EM plans to participate in additional military job/career fairs and supporting programs like the Operation Warfighter and Department of Defense SkillBridge
