DES Director Tara C. Smith and our Contracts & Procurement team organized a fantastic event this week! Eighteen small businesses on our Business Consulting statewide contract had the chance to connect directly with state agency leaders. We had around 80 people attend, and it was a great opportunity for everyone to meet, network, and chat about potential collaborations. This is just the start of our efforts to help Washington state small businesses connect with the folks who make purchasing decisions. We're planning more events to help agencies make the most of small, diverse, and veteran-owned businesses in statewide contracts—and we can't wait! In celebration of Arbor Day, we planted three new trees – a pecan, Chinese pistachio, and a sassafras – to honor this year’s theme of tree diversity in an urban forest. A song and a poem from our little helpers made the event extra special and reminded us how important it is to expand and preserve our urban forests, parks, and green spaces. Thank you to Washington State Department of Natural Resources and Governor Jay Inslee for joining our celebration today!
