Alaska Reads Science of Reading Course Application with Keys to Literacy - Intensive Schedules July-August 2023

Please complete this form if you would like to register for the free course that meets the required foundational reading skills addressed in the Alaska Reads Act for K to Grade 6 teachers. This intensive cohort will meet every Tuesday for five weeks for five, 2-hour facilitated meeting sessions. Keys to Literacy will also create additional cohort alternatives that will run in the fall. We will publish those offerings soon.

In order to start the online course before your first session, participants have until June 23rd to complete the registration.

Course Cohort Schedule

  • Entire course finished in 5 weeks & meets Tuesdays 8:30-10:30 AM (AK time)
  • Virtual Meeting Dates: July 11, July 18, July 25, August 1, August 8

About the Course

Between July and August, 2023, Alaska K-6 educators can participate in a hybrid-online course titled Keys to Beginning Reading that totals 46 hours. Participants spend approximately 36 hours completing modules in an asynchronous online course and attend five, two hour, virtual-live meetings facilitated by Keys to Literacy trainers that total 10 hours. The course is organized into five sections — participants complete a 6- to 8-hour section of the online course prior to attending a two hour, virtual-live meeting that addresses the content of that part of the course.

In order to receive credit for completing the course and meet the required foundational reading skills addressed in the Alaska Reads Act, participants must complete the full online course and attend all five virtual-live meetings. In cases of emergency or illness, participants may miss one of the five meetings, but must watch the recording of the session missed. This does not apply to conflicts in schedule. Please look at all of the dates and be sure you can attend ALL 5 MEETINGS before selecting a cohort.
