Bridge History

The Bronson Way Bridge was built in 1939 by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). In January 2018, ownership of the bridge was transferred to the City of Renton from WSDOT with the execution of the Turnback Agreement TB 1-0254 for State Route (SR) 900 through downtown Renton. Prior to the ownership transfer, the steel members were repainted by WSDOT on a cycle of approximately every 20 years, the last time being 1999. In 1978, the existing concrete deck was repaired and a water proofing membrane and asphalt overlay (wearing course) were installed on top, to protect the concrete deck from tire wear and water intrusion. Since 1939, no seismic improvements have been performed on the bridge.
