PMG Pat Donahoe has named Jeff Williamson as Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and Cynthia Sanchez-Hernandez as Pricing VP.

Both appointments were effective March 2, 2013.

As CHRO, Williamson reports to the PMG and is a member of the Executive Leadership Team. Currently the Pricing VP, Williamson joined the Postal Service in 2004, bringing with him private sector experience in business strategy, as well as finance and supply chain management consulting. He is a 2012 graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan Fellows Program and has earned master’s degrees in management and business administration.

Sanchez-Hernandez moved from her previous position as Pricing manager to become Pricing VP, where she reports to Chief Marketing and Sales Officer Nagisa Manabe. In 2012, Sanchez-Hernandez served as acting Finance and Planning VP. She joined the Postal Service’s financial planning group in 2009 after more than 15 years in the private sector. She has earned a master’s degree in business administration from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Science degree in finance.

“Jeff and Cynthia have shown exemplary leadership skills during their years at USPS,” said Donahoe. “They have demonstrated a strong commitment to USPS during times of change, and their experience will continue to serve us well.”

Hundreds of muscle car lovers had reason to celebrate last week in the run-up to the Daytona 500 NASCAR race.

They viewed the dedication of the America on the Move: Muscle Cars Forever stamps, presented by racing legends Richard and Kyle Petty and PMG Pat Donahoe. Attendees also got an up-close look at the cars that inspired the stamps — all five of the classic muscle cars featured on the stamps were on display.

USPS hosted a retail booth throughout the race weekend, where almost a thousand fans and collectors purchased stamps and other memorabilia. A wide selection of Muscle Car philatelic items and artwork is currently available through the Postal Store.

With a high percentage of employees eligible to retire, postal areas and districts are helping develop leaders who will be ready to fill future vacancies.

Activities like career conferences, mentoring programs and professional development sessions are being held, such as a recent event sponsored by the Mid-Carolinas District in Fayetteville, NC.

More than 50 employees attended the day-long career conference — Charting the Course — coordinated by the Learning Development and Diversity (LD&D) office with assistance from functional area managers. The conference featured sessions on interpersonal communication skills, interviewing techniques and handling difficult situations.

“We have a diverse workforce with a wide range of knowledge, skills and abilities,” said LD&D Manager Kim Boggan. “It’s our responsibility as managers to cultivate a supportive environment that provides learning opportunities for our leaders of tomorrow.”

Fayetteville Postmaster Dean Fields noted that there are opportunities for advancement. “These conferences are an investment in the future of the Postal Service,” he said.

Most USPS employees are familiar with the Advanced Leadership Program (ALP) — a program designed to help high-performing EAS 22 and above employees develop into future Postal Service leaders.

Based on the ALP prototype, a training program has been developed by the Sales organization — the Sales Advanced Leadership Program (SALP) — and the first class of 21 employees recently graduated.

The SALP provides advanced sales and leadership training to help groom sales management employees for leadership positions in the Sales department. The program includes completion of the Management Leadership Program (for those who are not previous graduates of ALP), two weeks of Lean Six Sigma training and one week of leadership development coursework.

Sales VP Cliff Rucker believes the program will benefit the Postal Service in today’s highly competitive economy. “This program will provide a pipeline of future leaders for the Sales organization,” he said.
