AT A GLANCE: Key investments proposed by Gov. Shapiro in his 202-2025 budget include $10 million in new funding for AgTech programs designed to provide more grants, loans and technical assistance for “innovative farming practices” like using solar power, reducing pesticide use or converting biowaste into energy.

There’s also a promise of $5 million to develop a new, state-staffed diagnostic lab in western Pennsylvania — none of the three existing labs are west of Harrisburg — to help speed detection and response to animal disease outbreaks like the avian influenza of recent years.
