Rancho Cucamonga has been recognized as an “All-America City” by the National Civic League for its efforts in the realms of health and well-being, officials announced this week.
The award was given to 10 cities across the United States for their efforts in addressing critical challenges in their communities. Rancho Cucamonga, which is home to about 176,000 residents, was the only city on the West Coast to receive the accolade.
“We are happy to designate Rancho Cucamonga as an All-America City. They showed us through their application and presentation that they do a great job of engaging the whole city in enhancing health and well-being,” Doug Linkhart, president of the National Civic League, said in a statement.
The finalist communities made presentations earlier this week virtually to a jury of 11 national thought-leaders to show how their communities leverages civic engagement, collaboration, inclusiveness and innovation to successfully address local issues.
In its virtual presentation, Rancho Cucamonga highlighted the positive impacts Los Amigos Park has had on residents’ daily lives, community engagement efforts and programs related to mental health and suicide prevention among youth.
Elisa Cox, the city’s deputy city manager, said the city was notified about the “All-America City” award on Wednesday and said the distinction highlights the city’s collaborations.
“It celebrates who we are at our deepest core, which is we are made from our residents, we are made from our community members and we are made from our partnerships,” Cox told KTLA. “That’s what makes us so special is being able to leverage those partnerships, really listen to our community and help us grow into being the best community around.”
Some other cities who received the All-America City recognition were El Paso, Texas, Miami Gardens, Florida and Rochester, New York.
