About this event

Note: this event is open exclusively to people of color.

Welcome to the EPOC Summit 2024 hosted by the Seattle chapter of Environmental Professionals of Color! EPOC provides a safe space for people of color working in the environmental and conservation (interpreted broadly) field to connect, share information, provide support, and discuss in depth the issues we care about.

This summit focuses on (re)connecting with new and returning EPOC community members through trainings, workshops, activities and discourse around topics of cross-cultural solidarity and identity. We feel it is critical to curate a space where EPOC members feel safe and confident to take up space, access creative workshops to explore their identity both in and outside of their work, connect with each other through relevant local and/or global environmental issues, and be empowered to work together to reimagine, build, and cultivate a more environmentally just future

Please come to all or any portion of the day you are available for!

Plan to arrive early for parking and registration (get fed too!)

EPOC is a program of the Center for Diversity & the Environment with over 5,000 members across the country. EPOC chapters are active in Portland, Seattle, San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles. This network provides both formal and informal opportunities to dialogue, organize, strategize, inspire, and support one another, and to develop leadership skills critical to this work.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to be an actively working environmental professional to come?

No! We understand the struggle of finding green work. If you're interested in the field but haven't found the right job yet, this event is for you too. It will be a good opportunity to make connections, so maybe by the next event you'll have that dream job!

I'm not a person of color - can I join? I work in the environmental field!

No. Though we appreciate our white allies, this event is is meant to hold space for BIPOC identifying professionals only. Thank you for respecting this need!

Will there be a hybrid/online option?

No - we hope to host many hands on workshops, and networking is an important part of this event. But if you have suggestions for future years, please let us know!

How much does this event cost?

This is a free event!

What is the best way to get to the venue without a car?

Discovery Park is served by bus routes 24 and 33. In addition, we can provide a $50 stipend for transportation costs via a Visa Gift Card. We have a limited amount, so please email us as soon as possible at epocseattlechapter@gmail.com with the subject line "Summit Stipend".

Do you have childcare options?

Unfortunately, we don't have childcare at the event but we can provide a $50 stipend for it via a Visa Gift Card. We have a limited amount, so please email us as soon as possible at epocseattlechapter@gmail.com with the subject line "Summit Stipend".

What if I can't attend for the entire event - can I still register?

Of course! Please come to any portion of the day you are available for. We will also accept people at the door without registration (as long as we don't exceed venue capacity).
