Senior Medicare PatrolProgram
KDADS is currently soliciting applications for the statewide Senior Medicare Patrol Program. This funding opportunity has been established to fund a statewide network of local, community-based partners and team members to provide outreach, counseling, and education to empower Medicare beneficiaries to prevent, detect, and report healthcare fraud, errors and abuse. SMP projects use funding to provide local outreach, education, and assistance to Medicare beneficiaries through a trained volunteer and in-kind workforce.
SMP projects:
- Teach Medicare beneficiaries to take proactive steps to protect themselves and the Medicare program from potential fraud, errors, and abuse.
- Actively disseminate fraud prevention and identification information through the media, outreach campaigns, community events, and one-on-one beneficiary support.
- Help individuals and their loved ones understand how to review their health care statements and bills for accuracy, as well as how to identify and avoid potential fraud schemes. If suspicious activity is identified or suspected, SMPs can help answer questions, resolve errors, or report suspicious activity for further investigation.
- Assist beneficiaries by referring potential fraud complaints on to other investigate entities, as appropriate. This process can include facilitating referrals to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)-Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU), Attorney General, and other organizations.
- Capture SMP program activity data including tracking, analyzing, and reporting of beneficiary complaints, referrals, potential savings, and other outcomes.

Substance Use Prevention Planning Grants (Cohort IX)
Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS), in partnership with the Kansas Prevention Collaborative (KPC), announces the release of a Request for Application (RFA) for Substance Use Prevention Planning Grants (Cohort IX). These one-year planning grants will allow eligible community-based organizations to receive funding, training, and technical support to engage their communities in a prevention planning process utilizing the nationally proven Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) Within and by the end of the grant year, planning grantees will be expected to have developed their organization’s ready-to-implement, sustainable strategic Comprehensive Community Prevention Plan. The purpose of this planning grant is to support grantees in the development of strong foundations before launching into the implementation of their Comprehensive Community Prevention Plans, with the intended result that grantees will continue with the successful implementation of prevention efforts in their communities.

Kansas Community Suicide Prevention Grant
KDADS's Behavioral Health Services Commission (BHS) announces the release of a Request for Applications (RFA) which will allow eligible applicants to engage in community-based suicide prevention services and activities which utilize evidence based strategies aimed to reduce suicidal ideation, attempts, and deaths, address shared risk and protective factors, and produce sustainable systems change for vulnerable populations in Kansas.
The purpose of this Kansas Community Suicide Prevention Grant is intended to address the ongoing crisis of suicide in Kansas though community driven suicide prevention programs which aim to reduce and prevent suicidal behaviors through the implementation and sustainability of effective, culturally competent suicide prevention strategies and activities.
The grant is intended to serve individuals across the lifespan.

Civil Money Penalties (CMP) are monetary penalties (fines) imposed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) against nursing facilities that have failed to maintain compliance with federal requirements. A portion of these fund are returned to States and may be used for projects supporting activities that benefit nursing facility residents or that protect and improve their quality of life or care. CMP funds may be used for, but not limited to the following:
- Training
- Transition Preparation
- Culture change/quality of life
- Projects that support resident and family councils
- Resident transition due to facility closure or downsizing
