Mental Health Resources for Children and Teens

While we work to ensure that King County employees have the resources they need to take care of their mental health, it is important to note that 50% of all mental health conditions begin before age 14 and 75% before age 24. Current reports indicate that the rates of anxiety and depression among children and teens are increasing. (Source: NAAMI).

As a parent or caregiver, it may feel hard to know if your child is struggling with their mental health. National Alliance on Mental Illness has information on What to Look For and When to Act that can help you better understand what the child in your life is experiencing.

Washington’s Mental Health Referral Service for Children and Teens

If you find that your child needs mental health care, there is a free resource that can help. King County helps to fund a free-to-you service operated by Seattle Children’s that connects families with mental health providers for children and teens 17 or younger living in Washington State. The referral service helps families find a mental health provider who is covered by your insurance and fits your child’s treatment needs. Teens between the ages of 13 and 17 can also call the Referral Service to find providers for themselves.

To use the Mental Health Referral Service, call 833-303-5437 during business hours or complete an online request.
