The City of Houston applied for a planning grant to study connections between Gulfton and destinations that are currently separated by infrastructure like the Southwest Freeway, Westpark Tollway, and other busy roads.

How is the grant being funded? The Reconnecting Communities Pilot Program was created through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed by Congress and signed by President Biden in November 2021. If awarded, this grant will be funded through the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT).
What is the timeframe of this process? USDOT will announce the recipients of this award in early 2023. If the City of Houston’s application is awarded, the Gulfton and Beyond study will begin shortly thereafter.
