Winston DBase: Migrate to new Linux VM?

Dear Earthworm users,

Need to migrate Earthworm Instance and Winston Database (DBase) to new Linux VM.   Is it possible to copy DBase in its entirety to a new VM without losing its integrity?

Old VM:    Winston is active recording data still along with active Earthworm Instance
.../lv_winston   2015734504 1787366304 125968200  94% /Winston
New VM:  Winston is active but no data being recorded because new Earthworm Instance not activated yet.
.../winstonlv     2356047872   32992 2356014880   1% /Winston

Hello Mark, I happen to be working on something at present that might be of help. I am in the process of working out using rear (Relax and Recover), along with duplicity and duply to backup and recover an entire system, to either bare metal or a virtualbox VM. I am pretty close to having things worked out, but not quite yet. All three of the pieces, rear, duplicity and duply are open source and pretty standard linux tools. I knew nothing of their existence until I started looking around for backup tools for our servers. Things are just getting too complicated to easily duplicate a full working server from scratch.

Just wanted reply with a short note to let you know about them. There is a lot of information on the web. I found it pretty difficult to actually get everything working at first. There are a number ways to do things. After you have a working methodology put together though, it is pretty straight forward. I could probably save you a lot of time with just a few examples of the things I have done.

You might look into the ImportWS program found in the Winston bin directory, with a config in the winston base directory.  It is not terribly fast, but we have used it to transfer WWS instances.

Second that. It is slower than 'not terribly fast' but it runs concurrently with an active Winston and does a great job at this.

Thank you for your advice!!   

I completely forgot about ImportWS but will look into its documentation.  
And very interesting the guidance on the use of Linux Tools -- Relax and Recover -- to backup and recover an entire system.  At my office we backup all of our VM/EW-Instances with VEEAM.
