About this event

Making and distributing beautiful wines well before Sonoma and Napa, Los Angeles used to be the epicenter of winemaking not just for California but for the nation prior to Prohibition. Since then, in the words of wine historian Thomas Pinney, “the most striking fact about the history of winemaking in Los Angeles, city and county, is the completeness with which it has been forgotten.”

Following the launch of their successful Kickstarter campaign in 2018, co-owners Jasper Dickson and Amy Luftig Viste have brought back this tradition of winemaking to Los Angeles. Based in north Chinatown, Angeleno Wine Co. is a small-production winery that sources unique grape varieties such as Tannat, Graciano, Godello, Loureiro, Alicante Bouschet, and Treixadura from small, sustainably farmed Los Angeles County vineyards. The resulting elegant, balanced wines reflect Los Angeles' character as a growing region where the desert meets the sea.

The Los Angeles Public Library's BEST Friends, whose members support the Business & Economics and Science, Technology, & Patents departments as well as the Octavia Lab at the Central Library, invite you to learn about the mission- and market-driven practices of these Los Angeles-based winemaking entrepreneurs.

* Please note, part of the Zoom presentation on the winemakers' business decisions will tie in with the wines produced. Details about the three featured wines and instructions for making purchases with UPS shipping, pick-up, or free local delivery options prior to the event are shared on the confirmation page and email. Further information on Jasper and Amy's wine portfolio is available on their website, and their 1646 N. Spring Street tasting room reopens on May 1st. All Angeleno Wine Co. customers must be 21 years of age or older.
