Coosa River White Bass

White bass are biting good on the Coosa right now. Rattle traps, rooster tails, jigs, etc. Had a few spots mixed in. Some folks are catching crappie but they are eluding me at this time.
Let me know when you can get up the creek... I'll show you where they're hiding.

@campboy Anywhere near Rome? My boy is after a white bass for a Georgia Youth Angler Award. The Coosa is long ... LOL He landed a qualifier last year in the Little River but he suffered for his catch that day - 3 hours his legs and feet hanging in the river in early April water temps were cold. We've been talkin about trying to fish the Coosa this year.

Right now the best area for bigger white bass is near Brushy Branch to the state line. Hope your son gets one!!

Followup: BIG THANK YOU to @campboy and @Batjack for their insight on the white bass and the Coosa. My boy and I enjoyed a weekend of fishing there thanks in part to both of y'all. Friday night we ate delicious burgers at Sam's Burger Deli and then watched a couple episodes of EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND in the van before falling asleep. Up early and on the water Saturday morning. 27° F was darn cold in the yaks - the steel paddle felt like a rod of ice in our hands. I give my son credit - he was cold (heck I was cold) but he paddled through it and landed nearly 20 fish on Saturday (and a few more on Sunday). Watchin him scout an area and work a lure tickles me. I find myself more a spectator on these outings. I offered a few changes in lure selection over the weekend but he stuck to what he wanted and landed every fish on that plastic. Saturday evening brought us another few episodes of RAYMOND on the ol' DVD player before dozing off in the Walmart parking lot. Side note he is 10 and loves watching RAYMOND. That makes me laugh. :) We fished a few hours Sunday morning before cooking up some biscuits lakeside and packing it in. Here's a quick recap of some of the adventure.

Man you should have said HELLO! I would have liked to thank ya in person. I recall you. My boy said "Papa that guy has been landing whites one right after the next!" :) I did hear the rope offer

How did ya drive down there? That ramp was my "I am nearly 50 and need to crawl out of this yak" spot! LOL I laid out on it for a few minutes then walked in circles on it to feel my feet and legs again. LOL It was a wee bit cold at 8 AM that morning for a good hour.

Will shoot ya a msg when we head over that way again. I figured that was someone's ramp out there and I almost stretched out on that felled tree remains near it just to keep off that section of concrete but when I stepped on the tree I slipped and thought I'd paddle over to the concrete and lay there next to the water. I apologize for stepping onto it and we'll stretch on that island upstream if I need to next go around.

No I didn't mean it that way. You asked me how I drove down there. Its private property but I have permission to fish there. Nobody's gonna bust your chops for takin a break there

What’s the water temp looking like over there? Wondering if they are moving up in other rivers. My son wears me out about white bass too and I think we have been starting a lot later than we should above Allatoona

Thank you sir!

Did you all fish backwater or main river, both? Looks like flow was moving pretty good in the river. Rain likely going to push it back up over the next few days.

Rule of thumb for rivers : Unless it's a "out of the banks flood" the 3rd sunny day after a rain is when you want to fish. It's not just the depth and current (which get back to normal fairly fast), but you need to let the sand settle. The sand irritates their gills and they'll stay "hidden" from it and not eat.
