Join the Detroit Zoo on Friday, December 16, for an exciting in-person workshop with José Franco at the Detroit Zoo. José, a consultant from WestEd, is a
teacher with extensive experience bringing engaging content that can easily be
recreated in classrooms or at home. He also serves as the director of Math
Pathways and Pitfalls, an award-winning curriculum designed to offer math
intervention for students in grades K-8. During his session, he will give
insight on how to incorporate math lessons into programming in a way that is
fun and engaging and helps break down misconceptions and bridge understanding of concepts.
José will share lessons for a range of grade levels
and will cover how to break down important math concepts to increase
understanding. This session is designed to be interactive and hands-on and will include time to try out the activities for
yourself!
By attending, you’ll have access to all the curricula used during the
sessions plus more! Those in attendance will also receive a Family Math Kit that will have
all the materials needed to host a Family Math Night for your community.
Zoo admission and lunch will be provided to those who attend. The workshop will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The workshop takes place in person at the Detroit Zoo, 8450 W 10 Mile Rd, Royal Oak, MI 48067. Please send any questions to education@dzs.org
