← Back to ASCLD Train the Director Series

This event originally occurred on March 17, 2022.
Duration: 1 hour

Overview

The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) is part of the U.S. Department of Justice's (DOJ) Office of Justice Programs (OJP) and helps to make American communities safer by strengthening the nation's criminal justice system. BJA is the DOJ agency dedicated to supporting forensic sciences by funding states, units of local government, and other forensic service providers to increase capacity and efficiency, improve services, obtain the necessary resources to meet workload demands, and ultimately better serve justice.

This presentation is part two of a three-part BJA Forensic Grants 101 series, where the previous webinar discussed Forensic Grant Opportunities and a subsequent webinar will cover Award Management. Building upon the previous discussion of grant opportunities, attendees will learn about application submission and the peer review process for competitive grant programs. This will be followed by an in-depth review of aspects involved in award acceptance and critical components of grant management as well as how the BJA Programs and Policy Offices work together during the life cycle of the grant.

Detailed Learning Objectives

  1. Attendees will learn about the initial steps of applying for grant opportunities at BJA.
  2. Attendees will gain insight into the peer review process for competitively funded programs.
  3. Attendees will understand what happens if their project is selected for funding and what is involved in accepting their award.
