SpaceX Launches $100 Million Expansion Project at Starbase

SpaceX is set to expand its Starbase facility located in Boca Chica, Texas in a big way, with a $100 million office and industrial factory that will significantly enhance the company’s infrastructure and capabilities.

The planned facility, located at 52198 San Martin Blvd., in Brownsville, is just a few miles from its launch site, and will occupy an expansive area as big as 15 football fields, highlighting the ambitious scale of the project.

The new office will boast a 329,493 square foot space, incorporating a five-level office mezzanine. This is in addition to the approximately 1 million-square-foot “special use industrial factory” that underscores the dual-purpose nature of the development, blending office space with industrial capabilities.

According to filings with the Texas Department of Regulations and Licensing (TDLR), construction is scheduled to begin on February 23, 2024, with a projected completion date of January 1, 2025. (via ValleyCentral)

However, according to comments CEO Elon Musk made on his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), the project is already “well underway.”

SpaceX’s expansion in south Texas is not limited to industrial and office spaces. As we reported last month, a $15 million restaurant and shopping center is also on the horizon. That project is set to break ground on March 15 and also expected to be completed by the end of the year. This retail hub aims to cater to the neighborhood and adjacent communities, offering a blend of lifestyle and retail options alongside SpaceX’s technological pursuits.

At the heart of Starbase’s expansion is the anticipation of new test launches. Musk announced last week that the company’s flagship rocket, Starship, is slated for its third launch in approximately three weeks.
