What: Learn and develop an enhanced understanding of what it means to co-teach, plan, and assess with your colleagues. By joining this Community of Practice; designed
and lead by you, facilitated and supported by
MAIER's Research Associate, Dr. Anica Miller Rushing, and 2Teach's talented Dr. Melissa Jenkins, you will increase your ability to use these practical, innovative, and research-based strategies to improve inclusive practices. Co-teaching, planning, and assessing can be accomplished with the same staffing availability and within the current planning time with planning and support and will increase your ability to more effectively meet the needs of all learners.
Who: K-12 classroom educators are the target audience, but others that work with youth in various learning environments are welcome.
Why: One of the ways that schools are increasingly using to address the needs of students with and without special needs in the general education classroom is through co-teaching. Co-teaching involves having a general education teacher and special service provider (e.g., special education teacher, Title I teacher, ELL specialist, speech/language pathologist) sharing in the planning, instruction, and assessment to ensure student success.
When/Where: Online Zoom meetings (link provided once you register) on May 10th, 17th, 24th, and 31st from 3:30 - 4:30 pm.
What will be discussed? Communities of Practice are spaces we facilitate and support by providing some framing but ultimately it is flexible based on YOUR needs and wants at this time. If you communicate a need or a question we work to make sure this time is effective for you to get what you need so that you can more deeply consider Co-teaching, planning, and assessing as part of your teaching practice.
