Summary

The COVID 19 Schools & Child Care Task Force (S/CC) Lead position works as part of Seattle-King County Public Health’s Community Mitigation and Recovery Team (CMR) and leads/manages a cross-functional team. The team includes several community and sectoral task forces focused on sharing mitigation and vaccination strategies with the community, reflecting community concerns with Public Health, and working to reduce the impact of COVID-19 on K-12 and child care sectors. The S/CC Lead is responsible for managing a multidisciplinary team and for the strategic approach to supporting the schools and child care sector during the COVID 19 pandemic.  This includes helping communicate culturally specific information to the wide variety of public and private schools and child cares in King County. This position is also integrated with the Community Health Division, School-Based Partnerships group to ensure long-term sustainability of the task force’s core functions.

This position will last through May 31, 2022, with a possibility of extension.
 
 WHO MAY APPLY: This Term Limited Temporary / Special Duty position is open to all qualified applicants. This is FLSA Exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime.

 Work Schedule This position will work a 40 hour work week and is not overtime eligible. 
 


Job Duties

  • Provide strategic direction for schools and child cares on COVID-19 guidelines in King County consistent with Seattle-King County Public Health directives, racial equity goals, social determinants of health, and policies.
  • Lead and manage a cross-functional team that provides culturally competent COVID-19 mitigation information, training, and technical assistance to school and child care sectors in King County.
  • Serve as lead spokesperson for PHSKC on COVID-19 mitigations to schools and child cares.
  • Establish and manage relationships with K-12 leaders, child cares, and partners in King County, including other professional groups and organizations such as Puget Sound Educational Service District and Puget Sound School Nurse Leaders. 
  • Be accessible, visible, and present for relevant/occasional COVID-19 educational information events as appropriate to school and child care administrators, employees, students, families, and community, centering and prioritizing this work on those with the most need and those most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.  
  • Develop, maintain, and distribute protocols and other tools and resources.
  • Collaborate with the Public Health Community Mitigation and Recovery Team to support CMR strategic direction.
  • Convene a regional community of practice with other local health jurisdictions to share learnings and align implementation guidance.
  • Convene the School Response Team comprised of representatives of internal teams supporting other aspects of the equitable COVID-19 response to K-12 and child care. Internal teams include vaccination, environmental health, investigations, testing, and analytics and informatics.
  • Handle politically sensitive inquiries about the program or work being done.
  • Handle complaints from constituents about schools and child cares.

TEMPORARY TELECOMMUTING REQUIREMENT
 
The work associated with this position will be performed remotely, at least through July 5, 2021 in compliance with King County’s telecommuting mandate. It is possible that the work will be primarily performed remotely on an ongoing basis after July 5, 2021.  
 
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop  and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.  Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.  There will be situations where the employee is required to report to a County worksite.  Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer.
