Learning and Development is pleased to welcome Travis Gershaneck, Veteran Fellow, to the Career Support Services team! Travis has dedicated his professional life to the world of public affairs and storytelling. He has served eight years in the U.S. Marines as a communications strategy manager, community relations liaison, military broadcaster, photographer, videographer, and marketing and communications director. He left the military in 2021 and is currently a student at Seattle University working towards his undergraduate degree in strategic communications. He will be involved with all communication and marketing efforts in support of the Career and Culture Division of the Department of Human Resources.

Grow Your ESJ Learning
Trying to grow your ESJ learning, but finding yourself on the waitlist for one of our workshops? We’re actively working to grow our capacity to offer more workshop sessions, but in the meantime, here are some things you can do to continue to grow your knowledge and skill around equity and social justice conversations:

Check out the “Equity & Social Justice” category in NEOGOV for a wide range of virtual learning opportunities. These workshops typically range from 5-20 minutes and are a great way to start learning the fundamentals of equity and social justice.

The Racial Equity Tools website offers tools, research, tips, curricula, and ideas for people who want to increase their understanding and to help those working for racial justice at every level.

Critical Leadership Techniques
Showing support and appreciation is critical for cultivating a climate where your team is motivated and committed to the County’s True North and Values. These strategies and conversation tips will help employees thrive and prevent feelings of being overlooked or underappreciated. Staying Steady – Online – As leaders we are often balancing multiple priorities and demands. This year has been especially difficult in finding ways to stay steady ourselves and ensure the wellbeing of our teams, especially as we continue with Future of Work planning, re-entry anxiety at home/work, and racism as a public health crisis. Join us for an interactive session that focuses on prioritizing your wellbeing as a leader and supporting your team with strategies to build a sense of stability and resiliency, to work more effectively. Sessions are free and are offered monthly. Creating Effective Application Materials – August 17
This two-hour virtual workshop will provide you tips and strategies on how to make your application materials stand out. This 90-minute VIRTUAL, small group workshop is designed to provide mock interview practice and feedback using the STAR-LA method as taught by King County Career Support Services. This workshop is for participants who have attended the Career Support Services led Strategic Interviewing Tips and Techniques online workshop or have watched the 10-minute STAR-LA method video found on the Career Support Services website at www.kingcounty.gov/CSS. Are you looking for an opportunity to simultaneously share and grow? Joining the Administrative Professional Partners (APP) could be what you are looking for. Since 2016, the APP, consisting of administrative professionals, leaders, and union representation, have been unified in the commitment to support the development and recognition of administrative professionals. The APP facilitates monthly Networking/Casual Conversation events, the annual Administrative Professionals Recognition Day event in April and pursues for equitable processes and practices.
Consider the following partner groups:
Networking/Casual Conversations - Partners will identify and facilitate bi-monthly events
Recognition – Partners will manage the quarterly recognition process
Training – Partners will identify trainings and manage Neo Gov Learn
Website – Partners will monitor the AP website and content updates
As partners, we support both the Program and one another. As your schedule permits 2-3 hours a month, we would welcome you as an Administrative Professional Partner.
