State's Attorney's Office Raises Awareness About Victims' Rights Throughout Lake County
(Lake County, IL) - The Lake County State's Attorney's Office invites residents to participate in National Crime Victims’ Rights Week by attending in one of our neighborhood events throughout the week. State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart along with community partner organizations will be educating the community about victim rights, services offered, and resources available to victims throughout the county. Three of our neighborhood events will feature survivor testimony and bring further awareness to victims and their rights.
National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is April 24-30. This year's theme is "Rights, access, equity for all victims."
The theme underscores the importance of helping crime survivors find their justice by enforcing victims’ rights, expanding access to services, and ensuring equity and inclusion for all.
The States Attorney's Office invites residents to register for the office’s Virtual Kickoff of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week on Monday, April 25 at 6PM, on Zoom at: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_mCNYWfjFSAWvSuH2V_qhJA
Monday's virtual event will be provided in both Spanish and English. Bitia Sandoval from the HEALS program at Mano a Mano and Karen Parra, Title XI College of Lake County representative will talk about the collaborative work they engage in with the State's Attorney's Office and services they provide to victims.
Residents are also encouraged to participate in the following in person events during the week where Lake County State’s Attorney Eric F. Rinehart will speak along with community leaders.

Tuesday, April 26, 11am-2pm – Resource Fair for Victims with Art Display by Dandelion Gallery at the County Building, 18 N County Street, Waukegan

Wednesday, April 27, 11am-1pm – A program presented in Korean, and English will highlight services provided in Korean along with a Survivors testimony at Hanul Family Alliance, 2900 N. Main Street, Buffalo Grove

Thursday, April 28, 6pm-8pm – Resource Fair featuring 24 community organizations at the Mundelein High School Cafeteria, 1350 W Hawley Street, Mundelein

Friday, April 29, 3:30pm-5:30pm – Sen. Morrison and Rebecca Weininger, Director of Domestic violence at NSLA will discuss new victim focused programs created in collaboration with State Attorney office. This bilingual event presented in Spanish and English will be at the Highwood Library, 102 Highwood Avenue, Highwood

Saturday, April 30, 10am-12:00pm – Resource Fair and Crime Survivors Testimony. This bilingual event offered in Spanish and English will be at the Gurnee Mills Mall Entrance G, 6170 W Grand Avenue, Gurnee
Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart stated, “our office has a renewed and urgent focus on protecting the community by enhancing the voice of victim in our courthouse. This year, National Crime Victims’ Rights Week appropriately focuses on equity and inclusion in the legal process. For our program this year, we will be hosting a wide array of events to show that we believe justice should reach every geographic and cultural corner of Lake County.”
Chief of Victim Services Jacqueline Herrera Giron said, "The goal of the victim services division is to take a holistic approach by meeting the victim where they are at while informing them of their rights and connecting them with needed services."
