Board of Supervisors Votes to Reform Short-Term Rental Ordinance |
|
SAN BERNARDINO – Today, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors introduced significant reforms to the County’s short-term rental (STR) ordinance. The Board agreed to make several key changes including:
- Limiting permits to two per person (existing permit holders will be grandfathered in)
- Limiting occupancy based on dwelling size with a maximum cap of 12
- Incentivizing owners to purchase noise monitoring devices
- Limiting the number of rentals based on parcel size
- Requiring the permit number be displayed on web hosting platforms
- Eliminating automatic permit transfers when a property sells
The Board also unanimously agreed to Rowe’s provision to place a 45-day pause on the issuance of new STR permits. This will allow the county time to prepare to implement the changes and realign resources to ensure effective enforcement.
The provisions introduced today will be considered for final adoption at the June 28 Board meeting.
Supervisor Rowe said, “It’s important we develop a balanced approach to how STR’s operate in residential neighborhoods. With the increasing popularity of STR’s, particularly in our mountain and desert communities, there’s no doubt that it’s time to reconsider and restructure the existing rules. Our long-term goal must focus on developing policies that ensure that vacationers and residents can coexist peacefully, while also preserving a sense of community for our local neighborhoods.”
Supervisor Dawn Rowe has served on the San Bernardino Board of Supervisors since 2018. She is currently the Vice Chair of the Board and represents constituents of the Third District.
